My Classroom
Hands-on activities, Daily 5, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and flexible seating are only a few aspects that help foster learning in my classroom. During Daily 5 students rotate between 5 stations; writing, reading to self, reading to someone, listening to reading, and word work. The flexible seating provided during this time helps students feel comfortable and at home as they read, fostering their love for reading and learning. While doing Daily 5, I pull small groups back to read leveled books where we focus on certain skills each specific group needs. This opportunity to differentiate a group of 26 students helps to increase all individual needs. Aside from Daily 5, students also participate in many STEM activities that correlate with the books they read. These images display activities focused around fairy tales and folk tales the students have read, where they are asked to plan, construct, and test their creations. My classroom is constantly changing as I find new ways to engage students in their learning process.

Students read a variety of books from the classroom library, school library, and leveled library during Daily 5. Here they use flexible seating bean bags to enjoy their stories.
Students work with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) during class. Using these plans and working together to build a chain reaction.
After reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears, this STEM activity required the kids plan, construct, and test their chairs to hold each of the bears (all different weights). From the look on his face you can tell he was successful in creating a chair strong enough to hold Papa Bear!
After reading the folktale, Johnny Appleseed, this group planned out the best way for Johnny to plan the largest amount of trees on his land.
The look of concentration demonstrates how serious these kiddos get into the STEM activities.
Using these cards, students follow the three step directions to plan, create, and test their building of a house strong enough to withstand the blow from the Big Bad Wolf.
Using Ipads and the free app "Epic," students enjoy listening and following along to stories during Daily 5 "Listening to Reading" station.
Comfortable and flexible seating is important in our classroom. This group enjoys reading to themselves on the big comfy reading couch.
Our Osmo Gaming System allows students to interact with letters and words. This program "Words with Osmo" displays an image where they are asked to place the correct letters in front of the screen to spell the word. Each week is different and follows our spelling curriculum.
